Plasma cutting and fitter simulator

Culenz builds VR simulators for plasma cutting and the fitter trade. Trainees learn cutting speed, torch height, measuring and assembly in VR, before working with real metal and power tools.

01 — Overview

Fabrication training in virtual reality

Plasma cutting and fitter work use metal, consumables and powerful tools. Beginners waste material and risk injury while they learn.

A VR plasma cutting and fitter simulator lets trainees practise the basics first. They learn technique and safe habits before touching real metal.

Trainees also get more repetitions in each session. That builds skill faster than limited workshop time allows.

02 — What's included

Skills trainees practise

  • Plasma cutting technique

Torch height, travel speed and angle are scored against a clean cut line.

  • Fitter tasks

Marking, measuring, filing and assembly steps, practised in order.

  • Safety habits

PPE checks and machine guards are part of every exercise.

  • Mapped to the syllabus

Exercises follow trade syllabus outcomes for ITIs and skill centres.

03 — Key features

Plasma cutting simulator in depth

  1. 01

    Plasma cutting technique

Trainees practise torch height, travel speed and angle along a marked cut line. The simulator scores each cut for accuracy and edge quality.

Poor technique shows realistic results, such as dross, bevelled edges or an incomplete cut. Trainees see how to correct each one.

  2. 02

    Fitter tasks

Fitter exercises cover marking, measuring, cutting, filing, drilling and assembly. Trainees follow each step in the correct order.

Measurement accuracy is checked at each stage. Trainees learn how small errors early on lead to parts that don't fit.

  3. 03

    Safety habits built in

Every exercise starts with PPE checks and machine guard checks. Trainees can't begin until they have completed them.

That habit carries into the real workshop. Trainees learn that safety checks are part of the task, not an extra step.

  4. 04

    Mapped to trade syllabi

Exercises can follow trade syllabus outcomes for ITIs and skill centres. Trainers see which outcomes each trainee has practised.

That makes the simulator easy to fit into existing courses. Trainers use it in regular sessions alongside workshop practice.

  5. 05

    From simulator to workshop

Trainees move to supervised workshop practice once they reach target scores. They arrive with better technique and safer habits.

Real workshop practice and practical assessments are still needed. The simulator makes that time more productive.

  6. 06

Common mistakes the plasma cutting and fitter simulator catches

Trainees often hold the torch too high, move unevenly or skip measuring twice before cutting. Fitter trainees often file past the marked line.

Each mistake shows its result, such as a rough edge or a part that doesn't fit. Trainees then repeat the task and check their measurements.

  7. 07

    Pairs well with this simulator

Fabrication courses combine this simulator with the Culenz VR welding simulator. Trainees cut, prepare and join parts before using real metal.

The hot work safety module adds the safety side of cutting. It covers sparks, combustibles and fire watch in a real workshop.

  8. 08

Hardware for the plasma cutting and fitter simulator

Most Culenz simulators run on standalone headsets such as Meta Quest 3, with no PC or cables. Some add replica tools or controls where muscle memory matters.

Where the task needs a seat, joystick or full-size tool, we supply a training station built for daily use. Every station is tested with your trainers before handover.

We advise on how many stations you need from your batch sizes and training hours. Spare headsets and controllers keep sessions running if a device fails.

  9. 09

    Scores, records and your LMS

Every attempt is logged with the trainee's name, exercise, score, time and errors. Trainers see each trainee's progress on one dashboard.

Records export to your LMS through SCORM or xAPI, or as a spreadsheet for audits and funding reports. That gives skill councils and employers evidence of practice hours.

Group reports show which exercises most trainees find hard. Trainers can then spend more workshop time on those skills.

04 — Our process

Rolling out simulators across centres

Many organisations start with one centre or one batch as a pilot. That tests timetables, storage and trainer routines before a wider rollout.

Standalone headsets travel easily between centres and need little IT support. Our SafeSim Uno platform updates every device and collects records in one place.

We train your trainers to run sessions and look after the equipment. They then teach new batches without needing Culenz on site.

  1. 01

    Scope with your team

We agree tasks, trainees, sites and success measures with your EHS or training leads.

  2. 02

    Script and storyboard

Your experts approve every step, hazard and score before the build starts.

  3. 03

    Build and test

We build the module, test it on the headset and review it with your trainers.

  4. 04

    Pilot

One group or site trains first, and we review the results together.

  5. 05

    Roll out and support

Headsets, records and refresher content are rolled out across your sites, with maintenance.

05 — Planning your project

Choosing the right partner

Checklist

Buying checklist for your plasma cutting and fitter simulator

  • Ask which exercises are included and whether they match your syllabus or job tasks. Check that scores measure the skills your assessors care about.
  • Ask how records export to your LMS, and who updates content when your equipment or procedures change. Confirm how quickly faults are fixed.
  • Finally, try it yourself with a trainer and a trainee. A short demo shows whether the controls and feedback feel right for your learners.

06 — Why Culenz

Culenz as your VR simulator partner

Culenz is a virtual reality company with offices across India and Dubai. We build VR training simulators for institutes, employers and government programmes.

One team scopes the plasma cutting and fitter simulator with your trainers, builds it, installs it and supports it. An annual maintenance contract covers repairs, spares and content updates.

07 — FAQs

Questions buyers often ask

Who uses fitter and plasma cutting simulators?

ITIs, polytechnics, skill-development centres and fabrication companies use them for first-stage training. Trainees learn safe habits and basic technique in VR. They then move to supervised workshop practice and make fewer costly mistakes on real metal.

Can the simulator include our own parts and drawings?

Yes. We can build fitter and cutting exercises from your drawings and parts. Trainees then practise on the shapes and tolerances they will meet at work or in their trade test.

Is the simulator suitable for ITIs?

Yes. ITIs use it for first-stage training in fitter and fabrication trades. Exercises follow syllabus outcomes, and records show each trainee's practice hours and scores for internal and external reporting.

Can plasma cutting and welding simulators be used together?

Yes. Many fabrication courses combine the plasma cutting simulator with the Culenz VR welding simulator. Trainees cut and prepare parts, then practise joining them before using real metal, all from one dashboard.
